RLDatix supports findings from PCAST Report on Transforming Patient Safety
RLDatix leadership responds to the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology report and how it will impact the future of patient safety across the entire healthcare continuum.

Chicago, IL, September 15, 2023: Last week, the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) released a comprehensive report with recommendations to improve and transform patient safety and healthcare workforce outcomes in the United States. RLDatix, the leading global provider of technology solutions enabling connected healthcare operations, is optimistic about the report’s findings and prioritization of patient and provider safety at a national level.

“We need empathy, compassion and transparency to improve patient safety and care delivery. The PCAST report provides critical guidance for systematizing harm prevention, socializing more empathic and transparent responses to harm events, integrating evidence-based solutions and fostering a culture of learning and improvement across the continuum of care,” said Tim McDonald, RLDatix Chief Patient Safety and Risk Officer and one of the architects of the CANDOR toolkit, a core resource  referenced throughout report recommendations.

Patient advocacy and effective representation are at the center of the PCAST report, with an emphasis on the need measure and report data related safety incidents, care quality and diversity, equity and inclusion efforts tailored to address the inequities that impact social determinants of health. The report also outlines opportunities for healthcare organizations to better support their workforces and implement cross-functional harm prevention.

“We cannot begin to address the issues facing patient safety without first identifying the factors that contribute to tragic and inequitable outcomes,” McDonald said. Once we’ve identified a problem, we now need to work toward measurement and solutions so that we’re not just talking about issues but finding ways to fix them.”

The findings outlined in the PCAST report reinforce the importance of RLDatix’s continued commitment to delivering solutions that can help organizations address report recommendations and support continuous improvement across the healthcare ecosystem.
