The Future of Patient Safety: Innovation, Transparency and Collaboration
San Diego, March 19, 2025: Day Two of the Connected Healthcare Summit 2025 explored how innovation, transparency and collaboration are shaping the future of patient safety.
In the panel “Inspiring You: The Future of Patient Safety,” RLDatix Chief Strategy Officer Darrell Johnson led a discussion with distinguished industry leaders including:
From Insights to Action: Transparency & Technology
Binder emphasized that hospital safety ratings drive change, pushing organizations to prioritize patient safety. The panel also highlighted the potential of AI-powered analytics and real-time reporting tools to enhance traditional safety metrics, making data collection more effective.
"Think of how much data we sit on,” Ratwani said. “Now we have the capability to manage that. One of the biggest challenges [hospitals and health systems face] is that it’s hard to measure progress when every day is different. AI can enable us to identify patterns we otherwise wouldn’t be able to find.”
Ratwani addressed barriers to technology adoption, including workflow disruptions and how to implement technology in a way that is sustainable, while McDonald stressed the need for a just culture to support innovation. The discussion underscored that technology alone isn’t the solution—progress comes from the intersection of human expertise, data and culture.
A Call for Collaboration
Filmmaker Mike Eisenberg spoke about the power of storytelling and personal connection and its ability to inspire action in anyone, not just those that work in the healthcare space.
"The side we don’t see is the innovation in healthcare before it reaches the public,” Eisenberg said, referring to the mountains innovators climb to bring technology to life. “I think that’s an important thing to show the world.”
The discussion concluded with a collective call to action:
The session reinforced a key theme: technology enhances, but human commitment drives patient safety progress.
With momentum building, attendees look ahead to the RLDatix Awards on Day Three, celebrating those leading the charge in transforming healthcare safety.
